Business Card Sizing
The standard finished size for a printed business card are 3.5 x 2 inches. However, your submitted artwork needs to include bleed. The "bleed area" is an extra 1/16 inch (.0625) of additional margin around the card. Any background color or design elements should extend into this margin and will be trimmed off for a finished look. When color or design elements give the effect of running off the edge of the paper, it's called a "bleed". To have this effect, you MUST submit your final artwork as 3.625" x 2.125".

Creating your Business Cards
You can use any professional or desktop software to create your business card. The secret though to a professional looking business card is to set up your ar tboard at the size of your finished dimensions plus "bleed". Some software programs offer templates that you can work from.

Helpful Hints
Cutting is not an exact science, allow a safety margin of space between the edge of your finished card and any critical elements (text or images). This insures that the finished product doesn't look uneven or clipped.

Also, keep in mind that a design with a border can be tricky. Make sure that the border is inside the safe zone and remember that if the cutter is even 1/16th of an inch off, it may look off centered. With that in mind, professional designers that understand print usually shy from definitive border requirements.
